With project management becoming more interested in how change management can increase project ROI, who better to guest author a chapter in Eric Verzuh’s bestseller The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management, 5th Edition than Prosci Chief Development Officer Tim Creasey?

The_Fast_Track_MBA_in_Project_Management.jpgThe Fast Forward MBA in Project Management released in late 2015, includes a chapter from Tim Creasey on change management's role in project management. You can read the interview below and download a free 40-page excerpt from this practical handbook (including Tim's chapter).

During the course of 2015, Tim has contributed three chapters to leading textbooks in the Organization Development and Project Management spaces. Interview with Guest Author Tim Creasey

Q. When was The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management published?

My chapter appears in Eric Verzuh’s The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management, 5th Edition, which was released in November 2015. Interestingly enough, I used the 2nd edition of this textbook in my project management course while I was doing my MBA. It was a great honor to have Eric reach out for a contribution to his 5th edition

Q. The title of your chapter is “Change Management: Promote Behavior Change in Affected Stakeholders.” What can readers expect to learn about change and project management in this chapter?

Eric’s work on project management is refreshing because of his intense focus on the delivery of expected value in times of change. His focus on excellence in creating change sets the stage for including a focus on change management. Over the last 15 years, I’ve seen a significant shift as project managers become more aware of and invested in change management. Over a decade ago, when Jeff Hiatt and I would reach out to project management organizations about change management, we would not even receive email replies. Today, you cannot pick up a project management magazine or visit a project management website without seeing change management. The chapter I provided for The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management provides an introduction to the complementary nature of change management and project management.

Q. Let’s talk about change management and project management integration. What do you think is the most important for project managers to know about change management?

Years ago, Prosci introduced what we call the “unified value proposition” of project management and change management. When a change is happening, we need the technical side to be solid so that the solution is designed, developed and delivered effectively. This is the arena of project management. But to really create meaningful value and results, that solution also must be embraced, adopted and used proficiently by impacted employees. That is the arena of change management. When the two come together in the unified value proposition, we get design, develop, deliver plus embrace, adopt and use, which yields successful and positive change.

Q. We’ve included a downloadable preview of the textbook that includes your section on change management. What else will readers see in the download??

First, I do want to thank Eric and Wiley, the publisher, for providing the preview as a download we can share with our readers. In the download, you’ll find my contribution about change management, as well as the table of contents and introduction to the textbook where Eric explains that project management is more than a skillset but is instead a mindset for those looking to deliver excellence in results. The full book can be found at the Wiley website or on Amazon.
